Green, green pastures - sunday photos

The rice harvest is in full swing in the Kathmandu Valley.  The rice fields have turned from a vibrant green to a golden yellow colour, with many fields being manually cut, dried, and processed.  The rice grain is separated from the stalk or chaff, and the chaff is dried and made into stooks for further drying and storage.  In the small towns we walked through yesterday, rice could be found laid out on tarps for drying, with women pushing it this way and that to separate the hull from the seed, as well as help it dry further.  I find it so hard to tell what 'season' we're at with things since in Canada farming is very much either happening or not happening (unless you have greenhouses of course!).  What's the expression? There's Hockey and then there's July?

At any rate, the photos below are of potatoes which are well into their growing season and the women and men who tend to them.  The last photo is one of the rice chaff piles which really reminds me of the Mennonites and Amish back home.
